THE STRADBROKE - HOW TO NAIL THE WINNER

If there’s one race in the Australian calendar that typifies my idea of a tough, Australian racehorse then it is the Stradbroke handicap raced at Eagle Farm.

The Stradbroke captured my imagination all those years ago when I arrived from the UK when watching Queensland racing for the first time on TV. The prevailing wet ground at the time and the long shadows reminded me a little of autumn racing in the UK, a time that I have a great fondness for.

UNDERSTANDING THE AUSTRALIAN CUP

There was a time when I attributed far more importance to Group 1 races that had the word “Australia” or “Australian” in their title than I really ought to have done, but this was only due to my being a daft Pommy migrant.

Early on in my acclimatisation, I was convinced that the Australia Stakes just had to be the top sprint on the Australian racing calendar – ‘cos of the name see – but, over time I realised that I was somewhat wide of the mark. How to unlock the form riddle of a great sprint

LINE UP THE LIGHTING!

The aim of this month’s article is to offer a reasonable method of predicting the winner of the Grp 1 Lightning Stakes. The prestigious race is run in midsummer so we should be almost guaranteed nice, fast turf on raceday (famous last words!).

It’s time to tackle France’s greatest race

TRACKING DOWN THE ARC WINNER

October is a great month for racing and hopefully, equine flu scare or not, we will be treated to a fabulous Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate but, before we get carried away by the home scene, please don’t forget that European racing is drawing to a climax in the same month.

Spare some time to take an interest in one of the world’s great races held this year on October 7th, the Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe. This month’s article presents the punting rules for success in the “Arc”, which should help you eliminate unlikely candidates from the full field of runners. Betfair offers you the chance to really have a crack at the great race and it would be nice if our TABs could cover the race as well (with Sky or TVN screening it live).

Point-by-point approach to nail the 3yo classic winner

OUR VCR DERBY SELECTION PLAN

One of the greatest races every year is the Victoria Derby at Flemington and it’s always a fascinating one for punters. What if we can come up with a set of rules that dictate the form requirements needed to reduce the field of potential candidates to a bare minimum?

Hopefully, applying the rules I’ve drawn up will help us deduce the winner of the race.
