His books were best-sellers.At the time, Don had more or less given up going to the races, preferring to bet from home via computer. His forte was multiple trifectas, each combination assessed for value and bet accordingly.

DON SCOTT'S LEGACY
In 1969, the late Rem Plante published his fine book Australian Horse Racing and Punters' Guide, in which he recommended a simple system of grading each horse's entire career based on the number of wins and where those wins occurred.This grading system highlighted the better-class horses but still required the punter to do the form via the traditional method of direct lines (A met C) and indirect lines (B met C but not A) to calculate any weight shifts of significance and to highlight strong formlines.

I wonder if we will ever discover what really happened to Don Scott? The great professional punter was found dead in his bed last year amid rumours that he had killed himself with a massive overdose. As far as I know, there has yet to be an inquest.I ask the question only because I happened to be leafing through his books the other day. It struck me what an astonishing achievement it was for him to have written such fine, detailed books about racing and betting.

The Don Scott of 1987 is pretty much a far cry from the days in the 1960s and 1970s when he stalked the betting rings in Sydney in the endless search for VALUE. It was a search that, for him, paid off handsomely.
