"I have never had so much success (or fun) with the punt. Thanx heaps and great
punting to all!”
"I am very appreciative of the efforts that go into producing this outstanding information."
In
the last discussion on the statistics relevant to Melbourne Clear Cut
Favourites (CCF) covering the period August 1 to December 31, I
expressed amazement that an actual profit eventuated if you backed the
329 horses concerned.
I also stated that although 329 was
becoming a significant number of occurrences, I would be happier to see
over 500. Well, we have now passed that figure. At that stage there had
been 329 CCF for 106 winners returning $329.90 and I was conservative
in suggesting we wait until this latest set of figures was published to
give us an opportunity to sit back and have a good think.
This regular
page is devoted to the performances of clearcut (no equal) favourites on
both Sydney and Melbourne metropolitan tracks.
Over the course
of a year various aspects of favourites will be covered and updated.
This month I have decided to update the clearcut Sydney favourites from
August 1, 2008 to December 31, 2008 which I detailed in the May edition
to include January 1, 2009 to April 30, 2009. The extra races will
provide an even better representation of the favourites’ scene in
Sydney.

Overall, the statistics
for this period show there were 329 CCF (Clear Cut Favourites: No
Equal) for 106 winners, or 32.22 per cent winners, for an amazing return
of $329.90. In other words, there was actually a profit, albeit a tiny
one.
As
the curtain came down on the Sydney Autumn Carnival with the running of
four Group 1 races, namely the Sydney Cup, Champagne Stakes, Queen
Elizabeth Stakes and the All Aged Stakes, it was apparent that another
odds-on favourite from the Gai Waterhouse yard had gone down.
Manhattan
Rain jumped from the barriers as the $1.80 favourite after the
“smarties” had moved in on-course late in betting and hammered the “good
thing” in from the $2.20 quote that was freely offered on course 20
minutes before the jump.
This page will be devoted to the performances of
clear cut (no equal) favourites on both Sydney and Melbourne
metropolitan tracks. All CCF, both Midweek and Saturdays, will be
dissected for PPM readers under a range of conditions which will include
jockeys, trainers, distances and spell dates. Over the course of a year
these aspects of the favourites will be updated to provide a better
understanding of their performances. This month I will be concentrating
on clear cut favourites in Sydney from August 1, 2008 to December 31,
2008.
The statistics show overall there were 333 CCF (Clear Cut
Favourites: No Equals) for 108 winners or 32.43 per cent winners. The
overall loss is 61.95 units which equals a massive loss on turnover
(LOT) of 18.60 per cent.
